April 28 – Credit here, credit there, credit everywhere ….

Too early for me to post anything yet today but for those that want to do some reading.  It is amazing the chatter and discussion that is happening around cyberbullying, mental health and exploitation.  I am so glad for this to be happening and unfortunately, there are sad things in the world still happening with young people.  But it is making us stand up and take a stand.  I just wish that more people would step up or down and add to the voice.

I have been reading articles and posts.  I sometimes am surprised at the ones who attack the parents.  They drive me insane with their ‘holier than thou’ attitudes.  It would be great if as parents to be, we could put in an order for the perfect child.  You know, the babies with NO colick or teething pain or bad gas or terrible twos or threes.  We want the teenagers that don’t drink, don’t go out, listen to all our words and get straight A’s.  Hmmm…. but then there is diversity and that is what the world is made of.   But as we all know, there are no guarantees because the world is made of DIFFERENT KINDS OF PEOPLE!!   Those wonderful people posting comments on articles and blogs saying all those NOT SO WONDERFUL words are actually being mean, vindictive and nasty.   They can hide behind their screens and type in all those words.  I dare them to say it to the face to face to a parent who is struggling with keeping their child alive or even one that has lost their child to suicide.  Yes, I said it.  The ‘S’ word.  It is one of those words that people whisper.  I even whisper it.  But it’s real and true and we are losing kids all over the world to it.

So to those adults who want to voice their opinions about parenting skills, take a look at your words and see if ,instead of slewing negative comments, you can use your energy towards making a change and difference to helping those parents and kids struggling with hanging on right now.  Also how about those kids that stand back and watch others get hurt by the words and actions of others.  Apathy can sometimes be considered another form of bullying behaviour.

Stand up and make a difference!!  Remembering that all snowflakes are unique, fragile and precious.  We should be treating each other like snowflakes….

This show was on Cartoon Network in my region, http://www.advocate.com/arts-entertainment/television/2013/04/26/why-anderson-cooper-will-be-cartoon-network-tonight#.UX5xc7vQdjE VERY POWERFUL to watch and CNN’s Andersoon Cooper spoke about how to teach our kids about empathy, how it can be learned, but how some people have more than others. I really believe this powerful emotion is one of the keys to more understanding of the bulleyed person.and what they go through. Very informative program.

To Niall, Thank you for your kind words…

  3. Niall McDade says:

The old saying keeps resurfacing in my mind, “It takes a village to raise a child.” Another just came to mind, “Let he who is without sin, cast the first stone.”

  4. merle48 says:

BY THE GRACE OF GOD GO I. Humankind will never change…some of us will always judge and gossip about others…at their expense. I am far from perfect, but I have NEVER been more aware of my actions than the past 6 months…now WHY is that? Some people feel incomplete , and actually feel superior if they can point out others’ weaknesses. Some do not possess the gift (yes gift) of empathy. Yes Carol you’re right, we are all wired differently, and notice that many times the people with the most to say about parents…ARE NOT PARENTS…and never were So where does that leave people who have to listen to and read this garbage? I will leave you with the same quote I posted on one of your previous blogs: One of my favorites…

Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don’t matter and those who matter don’t mind. ~Dr. Seuss

To Merle, I love reading your comments.

      • Savetheworld says:

The people making negative comments about other people’s parenting skills have deep seated issues of their own! Trust me Carol its called transference! It has nothing to do with you or any other parent. It’s their own weaknesses they like to highlight but never admit to themselves. That holier than thou attitude needs to go! 🙂 xo I also say walk in a persons foot steps before opening your mouth! And if you have nothing good to say keep it to your miserable self! We are here to help and empower others not to bring them down? Goes to show you what kind of people they are.

  5. Hamsi says:

Smugness is the privilege of the ignorant…these are the kind of adults who fault parents going through stressful times. I have said it before and I will say it again, the world needs to learn to withhold, shut up once in a while.
