May 10 – 7 months after October 10th

Here we are.  It’s been 7 months.  I can’t believe that my baby girl has been gone that long.  Yet so short.  On April 10th, I was doing media interviews talking about Amanda, the 6 month date and Rehteah Parsons.  Now here it is May 10th.  I am in Winnipeg.  I am with Rehteah’s mom and dad here.    We are meeting with Stephen Harper (the Prime Minister of Canada) to talk about our kids and how we lost them.  There are also two other families here that have lost their children.  Uggg…. way too many.

The meeting on Friday will be interesting.  Many ask if I am nervous.  I don’t think I am.  I don’t think about it that way.  Mr Harper (although the prime minister) is just another dad.  He cares and he wants to listen.   As a parent, he most likely wants the best for his own kids.  And also for his future grandchildren.  We have to look at how things are now and how things should be in order for the technology super highway to run smoothly without the major crashes to humanity.  We need to make it safe.  We need to make it easy and safer to access and move around in.

Everyone here is so nice.  And very huggable.  I have made some more wonderful life long connections.  And they drink white grape juice here too.

It is 2:31 a.m. Winnipeg time.  The problem with this is that in Vancouver, it is only 12:31 a.m.  So, Carol is not tired.  But when morning comes, uh oh.  How am I supposed to fall asleep?  It’s like daylight savings time all over again.  Did you know that snow disappeared from Winnipeg only a couple of weeks ago.  I still see the vehicles out here with the dirty snow day look.  Also, weird to see the plugs everywhere.  You know them.  It’s to plug in the cars in the winter.  They are everywhere.

I wish I was home to light my candle.  I am so proud and happy to see that others have written poems, taken pictures and made tribute videos.  To almost everyone out there – you probably won’t ever know how much I love and appreciate all that has been done and will be done in the future in helping to remember Amanda and her legacy.  It means so much.  It tells all of us that we care.

Have a few more people to meet tomorrow also.  The people who are printing the t-shirts and hoodies for ATL are in Winnipeg.  About 10 minutes from the hotel.  I am going to try to find them tomorrow.  I should go and try to see if I can sleep. It is not 2:47 a.m. Winnipeg time.

Hugz to everyone.  Love you Amanda …. xoxo

What a beautiful blog Carol, I hope your having yourself a wonderful time in Winnipeg. Enjoy some white grape juice and relax when you can, try and enjoy ‘just being away’ for a couple of days. I think its wonderful, you meeting up with the Parsons along with other families in similar situations. Your such a strong advocate in all this, im sure its important to them that you are there just as well. Wishing you well with the Harper meeting, so great to know this is happening and him taking this opportunity to listen to what you have to say along with the other families. We all hope to see something positive come out of this, this is also proof that you and Amanda, along with others such as Rehtaeh and her family are all making a major difference. Many of us will have our candles lit for Amanda today and tonight, thinking of her heavily on a day like today. Seven months has come and gone and it still feels very fresh, that all this has happened. I am completely amazed, looking back at these seven months and seeing all that you have done and are doing for your daughter and her memory. You have done so much and kept so busy, we are all so proud of what you are doing for her and her legacy. You are truly an amazing person and an amazing mom, anybody would be so lucky to have such a wonderful mother. You truly are an inspiring person. Wishing you sunny days when you awake.
