May 12th – Victoria, a Legacy fundraiser, Calgary and then Ottawa

It’s been a whirlwind the last few days.  Not quite sure how it has all worked out but I have flown to Victoria and back.  Attended a fundraiser for the Amanda Todd Legacy at the Shangri-La in downtown Vancouver.  What a fun night meeting new friends who are so passionate about a cause – and man, we know there are many causes attached to the Legacy.

Victoria was awesome.  So many kids at the YCI camp that were so receptive to listening.  Lots of hugs.  The organizers to a great job with the kids.  Thank you to the Victoria Police Department, Coast Capital Savings and the Victoria School District for all the caring and support you give to the kids.

The Canadian Safe Schools Conference in Calgary, Alberta was on Monday.  What a great conference with so many youth attendees.  I listened to #Sheldon Kennedy speak about his abuse as well as #Michael Champagne talking about his life growing up.  #Shane Feldmann made a great MC.   I was hoping to see more of the presentations but media interviews got in the way.  Also editing the first revision of the written submission between speaker presentations.

Thanks to Telus for the donation to the Amanda Todd Legacy and the iPad Air.  It will be used with great care.

Flying into Ottawa made me realize that I was only here a month ago.  For different reasons.  The last time, it was to do presentations related to Amanda’s Legacy and safety and awareness related to social media and mental health.  This time, to come here and speak in front of a Senate Hearing is kind of scary.  Out of five witnesses, I get to go first.  It’s 2:20 a.m. in Ottawa and I am still up editing the written submission (4 pages and editing).  This is like university days with the term paper that is due.

I will write tomorrow and let you know what happened.  Looking forward to see @Glen Canning in Ottawa.  Glen and I appear to have much to catch up on.

P.S.  It was sunny in Calgary.  It is sunny in Ottawa.  Hooray!!

About Carol Todd

Being the mother of Amanda Todd has lead me on this journey shortly after Amanda's death on October 10, 2012. Amanda's prolific You Tube video has been viewed over 33 million times. Through this video, there has been an increased awareness about cyberbullying, social media safety and mental health.

Is there a way I could contact Mrs. Carol Todd through email? I am a student in Ottawa involved in many anti-bullying campaigns. I would like to send a message of support.
