Today was just another one of those days. Full of different emotions. But for the most part ~ good ones.
This is one of the best ones … I went to meet a young girl and her teacher at at one of the schools out here in the lower mainland. This girl has been helping with Amanda’s Legacy. Last year with the help of one of her teachers, she started a Cyberbulling Awareness club at her school. As well, she has helped to make the coloured corded snowflake necklaces which are on the website. The hour long conversation of finally getting to meet each other was great. I learned so much about this young girl with a promising future.
Then as I was leaving the school, her mom saw me in the parking lot. She got out of her car and called my name. I figured out who she was before she introduced herself. After the perfunctory hellos, the mom asked me if she could hug me. And then she thanked me with an explanation of how her daughter has blossomed over the time she has spent working on the cyberbullying club and with Amanda’s legacy. I had found out today that this young girl had been bullied in school from grade 5 to grade 9. But like the singer that she adores, she learned to ‘Shake It Off’.
Bravo to a bright future ahead. She knows about online reputations and is making wise choices for herself. It is so nice to see Amanda’s Legacy making a difference ‘one kid at a time’.
