Arriving in Limerick …. May 6, 2015

Well I made it to Ireland and had an interesting plane ride and day. The 8 hour time difference is just plain old ugly for someone who lives on the west coast of Canada on Pacific Time.  After a day of orienting and also doing an interview, there was a dinner tonight at the Bunratty Castle.  The dinner was set in medieval times where the only utensil to eat the meal was a knife.  It’s amazing how one can survive with only a knife. Kevin Vickers is also here in Ireland and will be saying a few words at the Stop Cyberbullying Summit in Limerick.  Kevin is the current Canadian Ambassador to Ireland and also ended the October 22, 2014, shootings at Parliament Hill when he killed gunman Michael Zehaf-Bibeau, who was exchanging gunfire with security personnel in the Centre Block of the Canadian parliamentary complex.

At the dinner, there was a table of 41 other Canadians who were doing a tour of Ireland.  When Amanda was mentioned, most knew who she was.   When Parry Aftab stood up to say a few words, she mentioned Amanda and then me.   Surprisingly, the room clapped and stood up.  The emotions got to me because I wasn’t expecting any of it.  I did say some words and I guess they were the right ones.  I got another round of applause.  Wow is all I can say.  This is Ireland.  So far away but so appreciated also.  A trip to remember.
