April 25 – Peanut butter & ice cream & a spoon …

Now those are memories.  I am talking on FB to a mom I recently met.  She is the mom of Noah from the Facebook page ‘Letters for Noah‘.  Noah is a young teenager.  He had posted that he was planning to commit suicide on his 13th birthday.  Luckily, a friend of Noah’s decided to tell Noah’s mom.  She took immediate attention and got him to the doctor’s.  Noah was given hospital care and treatment.  His mom Karen decided to start a FB page called Letters for Noah  with the goal of having friends and family write letters to Noah before his birthday which was 2 weeks ago from the start of his hospital stay.  The goal was to receive 100 letters and well wishes.  This is the time that I met Karen on-line.  I’m not sure how.  I think I saw the Letters to Noah page and wrote a message to his mom to hang in there and what she was doing was great.  That was in January 2013.  She saw my post, responded and we are now virtual friends.

Noah is much better but as any person who is battling with some mental health concerns, there are up moments and there are down moments.  As parents, we try to be aware of all those moments and help them when we can.   Our children are ever so precious.  Better than gold. But fragile like glass.   Noah and his mom have been on an adventure.  They have been on radio and TV.  They have met interesting people on their way.  They had known about Amanda and when Noah’s mom told him she had talked to me,  Noah was in awe.

Note to self — send Noah some Amanda Todd/Stay Strong bracelets.

So where does the ice cream, peanut butter and a spoon come in.  I love eating PB out of a jar.  So did Amanda.  But of course, one must tell the young ones that you shouldn’t do that.  Shhh… mom did it in secret.  I think there is actually a picture of Amanda doing this very thing in the summer.  Except her brother caught her.  He was not impressed.   She was double dipping into the jar of peanut butter. Yuck but livable.   I think I ended up buying extra jars of peanut butter in the house so that there was an Amanda jar and one for her brother.  In Canada we have Kraft.  The red one is crunchy.  The yellow jar is really extra smooth.  The green one is really smooth.  We usually had all three in the house.  I liked the red lid.  So after me eating peanut butter and tellling Noah’s mom, she wanted some.  Then we moved on to the discussion about chocolate. Dark for me.  And then ice cream.  For Karen, chocolate of course.  Yum!!

So that is the short version of Noah.  If you go to the FB site, it is alot more interesting to read.

It’s really time for bed.  I have to sleep now or I won’t.  🙂

About Carol Todd

Being the mother of Amanda Todd has lead me on this journey shortly after Amanda's death on October 10, 2012. Amanda's prolific You Tube video has been viewed over 33 million times. Through this video, there has been an increased awareness about cyberbullying, social media safety and mental health. www.amandatoddlegacy.org

My two favorite “posters” have said their say, so what can I do but echo their thoughts. La Punisher, I hope you will press on with keeping a lookout for Amanda’s blackmailer, in the US they just caught a pedophile after five years’ hunt in Nicaragua.

Thumbs up for Noah’s friend, That’s all it takes is one friend to make a stand and say “this is not right” and a parent to listen and act. These times are really harsh for the young and to live it in silence makes it even worse… I have noticed that the cry for change is being heard and law’s are being introduced, Maybe not fast enough, We have to raise our voice even louder, We have to make this stand no matter what it takes, Thank you Princess Snowflake for giving me a new cause to stand up and make a difference

Have a great day Carol Hugz 2U

Seriously, does anyone NOT eat peanut butter out of the jar? I’m glad to hear that Noah is doing much better. It’s important to have attention which is positive, which it appears he is getting. That is sometimes the hard part with exposure to the public. I’m glad you guys can have connected, because all the positive influences help the most along the way.
